He suffered a heart attack while spending the evening in a restaurant with his family. The episode happened last night in Piazza Guglielmo Marconi, in the center of the city of Porto Torres. It was 10.40pm when the alarm went off.
The man, a 68-year-old Roman tourist, sitting at the table in a well-known restaurant to have dinner, suddenly felt a pang in his chest, almost losing consciousness and collapsing to the ground. The 118 operations center was immediately alerted. A Sardinian Rescue ambulance arrived on site with doctors and healthcare workers on board, who, using the correct maneuvers and the defibrillator, saved the tourist at the last minute.
In the first few minutes, the sudden intervention of the 118 operators proved to be fundamental, as they saved the 68-year-old's life with the use of the equipment. The doctors continued to give him cardiac massage for a few minutes before transferring the patient to the Santissima Annunziata civil hospital in Sassari where he was admitted.
