A vast fire consumed an old structure that housed the ticket offices of the Moby Lines, the shipping company that guaranteed the Genoa-Porto Torres connection. Located in the upper part of the Alti Fondali quay of the port of Porto Torres, the prefabricated building was completely destroyed by a fire that broke out in the evening.

At 7pm an explosion and a column of thick, black smoke invaded the city. Fear among the inhabitants. The operations room of the Turritana coast guard activated the rescue chain as soon as the origin of the flames was identified. Thanks to the prompt intervention of the Coast Guard boat GC B 160 and the fire brigade vehicles stationed at the port base, the fire was immediately controlled and put out. The rapid response of the fire-fighting equipment in the port ensured that the fire did not cause further damage to people or property. Two fire brigade teams intervened on site and, with a fire engine and a barrel, put out the flames fueled by flammable material, such as tyres, plastic and paper.

The building, made of modular plastic boxes, was reduced to a skeleton in a few moments. No one was involved. There was extensive damage to the structure which in recent years also housed the Delcomar ticket offices, before being decommissioned. Abandoned for some time, it had become a landfill containing all sorts of waste.

The police have not found any traces but do not rule out that it was a malicious act. The police from the local company are also investigating and are awaiting the report from the red helmets. The cleanup operation continued for a few hours in the evening. Local police were also on site and blocked traffic at the entrance to the Alti Fondagli port area, manned by Port Authority vigilantes.
