In Porto Torres and throughout the territory there is grave mourning for sport and the world of work: this morning Giovanni Fara, a former footballer, great sports manager and former accountant, died. Also son of Giovanni Fara senior, the man who decades ago founded in Porto Torres one of the largest fish factories in Sardinia and Italy, which employed almost 500 employees.
Giovanni Fara jr had football and work in his blood. He was among the founders, players and managers of Turritana, the legendary city team that began playing in 1946 in the Marinella field, then engulfed by the industrial area. Once he graduated, he embarked on a career as a highly esteemed accountant. On their own, until retirement. He was for decades the manager of Porto Torres in the best of times, historic president of the youth sector, then at an amateur level among the strongest in Sardinia and the peninsula. In which talents grew that also made light in the professional and regional fields.
Giovanni Fara, an authentic gentleman, was loved by entire generations of football players, of whom, in addition to being a manager, he was above all an uncompromising educator: with his gentle and, if necessary, severe ways. «In sport, education comes first», he used to repeat. Even in recent years his favorite team was Porto Torres, in addition to Juve, of which he was a great fan. But to tell the truth, there was not much recognition in the new football. "Too many vices and too much money" was his judgment.
With Giovanni Fara, Doctor Fara for everyone, a genuine way of playing sport passes, where human values were in first place. In fact, his death has already aroused deep condolences among all sportsmen. He leaves his wife Emma and children Monica and Gianluca. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3.30 pm at the Consolata church
