It must have been a quiet sunny day, a time to enjoy the Sunday morning on the Balai waterfront. However, for an 82-year-old woman from Sassari, the walk in the most panoramic places of the city of Porto Torres has turned into a nightmare .

In the company of her husband, shortly after noon, while walking on the cycle/pedestrian path, in the section reserved for pedestrians near the locality of "Il Ponte", the woman tripped over one of the many holes similar to craters, falling disastrously to the ground and hitting her face on the uneven pavement .

The pensioner was immediately rescued by a passerby who alerted 118, while two health workers were also walking on the spot who, intervened, provided first aid to the injured woman before handing her over to the ambulance doctors who rushed to the car parks along the seafront. Accompanied to the Santissima Annunziata hospital, the doctors found a fracture in the nasal septum and some grazes .

In some stretches of the cycle path that runs along the sea side, the pavement has now deteriorated and risks for cyclists and pedestrians are inevitable. The municipal administration has launched a plan for the maintenance of the route that connects the two churches of Balai , through the laying of a fiber-reinforced concrete screed and a new architectural flooring in environmentally friendly material.
