«Eni, in its various corporate branches, has been in this area for over 40 years, a very long time in which it has not been able to find solutions for its relaunch and, above all, to respect the commitments undertaken since its establishment. Coming today to tell our home what the situation is that we are the first to know is not useful. Today, in fact, is not the place for an in-depth analysis of issues we already know, but rather an open municipal council convened to have concrete answers on the activities of Eni and the companies of the same group that operate in the industrial site of Porto Torres and which for their economic, social and environmental characteristics have repercussions on the entire North West territory". Harsh words from the mayor of Porto Torres, Massimo Mulas on the occasion of the open municipal council, a session called by the president of the municipal council Franco Satta at the request of the opposition and the majority for a discussion with Eni's representatives.

Present at the meeting were the lawyer Francesco Manna, Eni institutional relations lawyer, Filippo Mocciaro, area project manager for Eni Rewind, Davide Tellini, institutional relations area, for Eni Plenitude Paolo Bellucci, Italy renewables area manager, and Chiara Olivieri, business institutional and regulatory, for Versalis Andrea Tomasino, Versalis Porto Torres plant manager, and Giovanni Pellotta, communications manager.

From 2003 to 2023, approximately 565 million euros were spent on reclamation, of which 346 for the reclamation of soil and groundwater, 157 from the Taf plant or for the restoration of groundwater and 63 million for the demolition of the old plants. In the 1,124 hectares of the industrial area of Porto Torres, a site of national interest since 2003, there is also the reclamation platform for the Minciaredda landfill. Of these 53 hectares are occupied by photovoltaic systems in operation, another 133 are intended for new systems and a wind farm stands on 193 hectares.

For Mayor Mulas: «This is a territory that wants to communicate on an equal basis and that does not intend to settle for a simple report of already known numbers. It is precisely this type of one-way dialogue that does not allow us to strengthen that relationship of trust compromised by failure to respect the commitments undertaken over time. Just think of the 2011 reconversion protocol on green chemistry which promised positive effects and which instead was totally disregarded. A default attitude for which we cannot claim the right to reprogram our industrial future. On the contrary - he adds - the time has come to sit with us around a table in which all the local players are on an equal footing in discussing, evaluating and accepting projects that can truly legitimize your presence in the industrial area".

Projects which, according to the mayor, «must respect the industrial vocation, overcoming the inertia demonstrated over the years. Otherwise we are ready to carry forward different reasoning and plan development actions through the development of projects in those areas." And again: «Today we want to reiterate that in front of you you have an interlocutor that includes all the actors of the vast area, the mayors of the future metropolitan city, the Tips, the industrial consortium, the Province, the trade union organizations and the social partners and which intends to proceed in a compact manner, not accepting a subordinate position but only solutions that are advantageous for the whole community. The time of moral blackmail linked to pay slips and one-way decisions is over." The minority councilors Ivan Cermelli and Michele Bassu and the majority representatives Antonello Cabitta and Gianpiero Madeddu attended the session.
