Coves, hidden places and splendid but dangerous beaches, between ignored ordinances and imprudent bathers. Along the coast of Porto Torres , thirteen areas are monitored with inspections and surveys carried out using drones, areas where there is still danger of landslides. Among these also the Grotta dell'Inferno where in the past a large fragment of rock had collapsed, now reached by boats and kayaks. Reckless hikers also on the cliff in the direction of Balai distant, better known as cala Porcheddu , with its wonderful beach below.
" That cliff is literally crumbling and in recent years the phenomenon has worsened further," explains Antonello Falchi, a hiker. «Currently, in addition to the collapse of some stones that end up on the beach, there is a large landslide composed of heavy boulders, some of which have already fallen into the water, but the vast majority of these rocks are close to falling into the sea from a height of 15 meters , and their trajectory is that of the boats that travel every day, often even at night, even with children on board, to reach the small beach».
The municipal administration had positively closed the conference of decision-making services on the safety project of the backshore cliffs on the coasts of nearby Balai and Abbacurrente, with intervention to protect the foundation soils of the Abbacurrente tower. A project that benefits from regional funding of 1.5 million euros. Insufficient resources for a consolidation plan involving approximately thirty kilometers of coastline. Therefore the Municipality had foreseen a preliminary project of around 9 million and 300 thousand euros , preceded by a complex plan of geognostic and environmental investigations on thirteen areas at risk.
These include the Acque Dolci, the inlets of Balai, San Gavino a Mare, the beach of Balai, Scoglio Ricco, the inlet and cave of Spiaggetta, the caves of Arco, dei Granchi and dell'Inferno, the area under the intersection between the provincial road 81 and via Tramontana, Balai Lontano, the area under the straight line of the provincial road 81, the Abbacurrente beach, the Abbacurrente tower and the beginning of Platamona beach.
