Too many arson attacks without a culprit, arsonists who continue to claim victims, destroy cars and work vehicles, putting individuals or entire families in economic difficulty. "We need a municipal solidarity fund for the victims of the attacks." This is the proposal of the "Porto Torres Avanti" council group, Bastianino Spanu and Costantino Ligas, who after the latest arson attack against a gardener, intervene to create a guarantee in support of those who suffer economic damage. «We no longer intend to waste energy in useless clashes within the council chamber, nor even point fingers to attack the police forces, who are busy every day, without men and means, in policing our territory», they underline «however we cannot ignore what is happening in our city."
Cars burned under the homes of entrepreneurs, artisans and ordinary citizens, which, added to the other episodes that have occurred in recent years, record a negative balance with over one hundred vehicles destroyed by the flames.
On Thursday evening, around 11pm, the van of a gardener, Fabrizio Derudas, was devoured by arson, an act of intimidation that brought the owner to his knees. The equipment inside the vehicle also went up in smoke. «The many unfortunate citizens who have suffered attacks most of the time do not have the insurance policy that covers acts of vandalism, theft and fire», underline Spanu and Ligas, «for this reason our idea is to establish a Fund of municipal solidarity, for all those people residing in the city, without insurance coverage, who have suffered attacks on their cars or their businesses", add the two councillors. «The municipal solidarity fund could be established by the department of social services, using part of the revenue deriving from violations of the Highway Code».
