Porto Torres, alarm from the Lndc: «The Andriolu kennel is not adequate»

«The Andriolu kennel in Porto Torres is now a non-standard structure that should be closed as soon as possible, because it lacks the regulatory requirements to guarantee the animal welfare required by current laws, such as the lack of an adequate green area to run around for the poor foundlings who will perhaps spend an entire life in kennels, allowing the reclamation of the entire former slaughterhouse area."
Thus Sebastiano Candidda, representative of the National League for the Defense of Dogs, intervenes to highlight the critical conditions of the structure already affected in 2014 by a closure measure due to overcrowding and lack of requirements signed by the manager of the Environment Sector. «It is an intolerable moral slap for the sensitivity acquired over the years by the Turritan community towards pet animals – he adds – and which has led the city to be a virtuous example in the fight against stray animals, thanks also to the presence of various voluntary associations».
Candidda underlines the opportunity to close the shelter and arrange for the transfer of the dogs through an expansion of the new kennel located in Monte Rosè. The eviction of a family of serial hoarders was recently arranged. A few days ago the site, formerly home to the municipal slaughterhouse first and then to the gypsy camp and which since 2012 has become a huge landfill for waste of all kinds, was declared highly unhealthy by the Fire Brigade themselves, who intervened on site to verify the presence of several cats abandoned to their fate following the family's move.
The administration has allocated a sum of 355 thousand euros for the reclamation of the entire area. Various reports sent to the competent offices by the president of the Lndc with the aim of limiting the proliferation of mice and the risk of contagion of leptospirosis to the dogs of the shelter, an infection that is transmissible and dangerous also for humans.
