A large crowd gathered in Via Sassari at the Eni gas station to applaud the lighting of the torch carried by the Asinara Waves wheelchair basketball team.
The organization's vehicles, along with motorcyclists and state police cars, served as escorts. The city hosted the Olympic Torch Relay, organized by the Milan-Cortina Foundation in preparation for the Winter Games scheduled for next February. The route began in Greece on November 26th with the lighting of the traditional bonfire, which then traveled to Rome, where it began its journey on December 6th.
Until February 6th, the flame will travel across Italy, bringing the values of Olympism—friendship, respect, excellence, and inclusion—everywhere, showcasing the country's timeless beauty to the world. 60 stopover cities, 300 transit municipalities, and 12,000 km of travel: these are the numbers of a mosaic of territories, cities of art, villages, and places symbolic of history and collective memory. In Porto Torres, the finish line will be on Via Mare, where a huge crowd welcomed the torch.
