Porto Torres, 49 public housing shored up: "Any liability is ascertained"

By now it is an objective fact that the story of the 49 public housing units, newly built apartments in via Falcone and Borsellino delivered to Porto Torres just four years ago, have defects that jeopardize or damage the normal enjoyment and functionality of the houses.
The critical issues present in the buildings inaugurated on 10 May 2019 forced the municipal administration to activate a preventive technical assessment of the individual apartments before the Civil Court of Sassari. The same judge, to verify the causes of all the construction defects and crystallize the situation, ordered that all the balconies of the 49 lodgings be shored up with support scaffolding.
"Interventions of a conservative nature - explain the municipal technical offices - in order to preserve the state of the places to ascertain any liability of the construction company". The terraces are secured without altering the evidence necessary to verify "possible faults" and construction defects.
The results of the checks on the terraces of 23 lodgings "was worrying", it is written in the report of the head of the State Property and Assets service of the Entity, who had underlined the urgency of intervening and appointing a lawyer to protect the interests of the Municipality, identified in the lawyer Marco Piras. Given the precarious structural conditions of the balconies, an executive order was issued on 1 March, declaring 23 balconies unusable, with a ban on use by the owners. In recent days, the firefighters had intervened to remove a dangerous railing from one of the terraces subjected to shoring. Following the inspection of the technical structure, in correspondence with the supports of the verandahs, in the outermost part of the building, the one most exposed to water infiltration and humidity, the most critical issues were found on the wood, completely compromised and no longer able to guarantee resistance. Furthermore, always in the verandas, along the external supports, shear deformations are visible and in the investigation carried out in correspondence with one of the central shelves there are wood parasites.
