A doe that can never be released into the wild again and a killed Bonelli's eagle .

These are the two discoveries made last Saturday in Alghero and Ozieri by the Forestry Corps.

A patrol from Alghero, following a report sent via the 1515 operations rooms, intervened in the countryside of the town to rescue a young female deer with one leg trapped in a large serrated trap .

The officers contacted the veterinarian of the Bonassai Wildlife Recovery Center who, upon arriving on site, sedated the terrified doe to allow her to be released. The doe underwent surgery, her life was saved but the limb was compromised forever, therefore the specimen can no longer be reintroduced into the wild in its environment.

The poachers' trap had also been placed in an area easily accessible to the public, with grave danger for people as well. The large, serrated trap with great compressive force could have caused the same effects on a person as the doe . The Forestry Corps is investigating the episode.

Shortly after, another patrol recovered a lifeless Bonelli's eagle in the countryside of Ozieri, shot by a hunting rifle at close range , as confirmed by veterinarians. The bird of prey, equipped with a GPS and ring that allowed its identification, had been introduced into the natural environment as part of a European project to protect the species. The Ozieri Forestry Station is conducting investigations to identify the perpetrator of the crime.
