The recently re-elected mayor Franco Manna will be sworn in tomorrow, taking office with the new city council, but in continuity with his administrative mandate he has already taken pen and paper (so to speak) by sending a formal note of protest to the local health authority of Olbia for the closure in Palau , on the evening of 13 June last, of the medical duty shift.

«It is no longer possible to overlook the disservices of the medical guard - writes Manna - since the shortage of doctors cannot and must not be considered a valid justification for depriving a territory that has a catchment area of several dozen thousands of people, with peaks in the high season of over 240,000 users». The mayor continues by arguing that «this is not the first time this has happened in Palau, while the same criticality is not found, for example, in the neighboring municipalities of La Maddalena and Arzachena. Added to this is also the long-standing absence of the tourist guard service».

Franco Manna then adds that, as mayor, responsible for local health, he does not intend «to be co-responsible for this situation. I don't think it's enough that they tell us that there are no doctors: ASL Gallura and the Region are required to take action, finding doctors even with extraordinary tools, such as revocation of holidays or staff mobility from other offices if necessary and this, if necessary, must be done ahead of time» and informs «that any problem of a legal and/or health nature will be attributable exclusively to ASL Gallura and ARES (Regional Health Company)».
