In 2017 an investigation by the Prosecutor's Office of Tempio decapitated the Municipality of Palau, the then mayor Francesco Pala and the deputy, Maria Teresa Pes, were arrested on charges of having promised aid in exchange for electoral propaganda (illegal induction to give or promise utility).

The former mayor and his deputy are forced to resign. Today the prosecutor, at the conclusion of the trial before the Tempio investigating judge, Marco Contu, asked for the acquittal of the two administrators and of the person to whom the promise of help was allegedly made.

According to the prosecutor there are no elements to support the accusation. The defense lawyers (Giovanni Azzena, Tomasino and Giulia Russu) have always maintained the total groundlessness of the conduct contested against Pala, Pes and Angelo Barbato (the person who should have benefited from the offence).

The documents show that the former mayor, intercepted, asks Barbato to take care of the electoral campaign on social media and the answer is negative, because Pala's interlocutor receives unemployment benefits. Hence the investigations and then the arrests, followed by the resignations of the suspects and the commissionership of the Municipality of Palau. The trial continues on July 6.
