The Carabinieri of Sassari bid farewell to Brigadier Salvatore Linzas, who left active service to retire on January 4 after 34 years.
Linzas, 60 years old, originally from Ossi, began his career with the elamari back in 1990 and, after the training course at the Carabinieri Students School in Benevento, he was assigned to Veneto.
In 1995, in the aftermath of the sadly notorious Chilivani massacre – a criminal action in which Corporal Ciriaco Carru and Carabiniere Walter Frau were killed – the General Command of the Force decided to send numerous reinforcements and the choice also fell on the young Carabiniere Linzas who, arriving in Ozieri on the morning of 24 December of that same year, began his new adventure which lasted until last Saturday when, surrounded
from the affection of friends and colleagues of the Arma and other Police Forces, he returned his equipment and "took off" his leather boots, an unmistakable sign of recognition of all members of the Radiomobile departments.
Right in the late morning of January 4, at the end of the last shift on board "his" Alfa Romeo Giulietta with the "Gazzella" symbol, Linzas - arriving in front of the headquarters of the Ozieri Company - was welcomed by the Company Commander and the personnel of the Arma, as well as by a representation of the local State Police Station and the Guardia di Finanza: great was the emotion of all those present who, lined up with the service cars, wanted to pay homage to the most senior non-commissioned officer of the Ozieri Emergency Response.
