Ovidio Marras, the shepherd who blocked the concrete at Capo Malfatano, has died at the age of 93.

A Sardinian "David" who fought against the Goliaths of entrepreneurship and finance, who with his unbreakable obstinacy saved a piece of Sardinia's coast.

Thirteen years ago he refused to cede his lands to Sitas, which wanted to build a resort by the sea, between Malfatano and Tuerredda. He initiated a battle in court supported by Italia Nostra, to defend a road serving his properties which had been usurped. He won. And his stance led to the failure of the project, which was supported by names of the caliber of Montepaschi, Toti and Benetton, with final management that should have been entrusted to the Marcecaglia group.

Ovidio Marras is now gone. And with his battle he left his family's land as it was.
