In the aftermath of the vast fire that devastated approximately 450 hectares, up to the gates of the town, in Orotelli it is time to count the damage.

From his office in the Municipality, Mayor Toni Bosu draws a dramatic assessment. This morning too, the clean-up operations continued unabated: teams on the ground, Canadair and helicopters were working.

«We have just returned from terrible hours» , says the mayor, exhausted, «the blackened landscape is a blow to the heart . But what also devastates us is the sadness in the eyes of the farmers. There are those who lost 250 sheep and 100 lambs: animals killed in the fury of the flames. A massacre".

Which, according to the mayor, was contained only thanks to the prompt intervention of the regional machine: " If the same epilogue as thirty years ago did not occur, when our country was evacuated", claims Bosu, "it is only thanks to the efficiency of the relief efforts, which arrived quickly in the affected areas".

His thanks go «to the men of the Forestry Corps, firefighters, civil protection and barracelli. They were extraordinary, they gave their all at the risk of their own safety and avoided far more serious consequences. Our entire community is grateful for what they have done and are doing."

A more precise picture of the situation is expected in the next few hours. And support actions for damaged farmers will also be evaluated: «It will be hard to start again but we will get back on our feet», assures Bosu, «we are thinking together with our technicians about the declaration of a state of natural disaster. In recent hours we have undertaken discussions with the regional institutions and with the new prefect of Nuoro".
