After years of waiting, work starts in Piazza Manno . The construction site, entrusted to the Ghiaccio company, will open on Tuesday and will last 240 days .

«It is a very important work for the city – said the mayor Massimiliano Sanna and the councilor for Public Works Simone Prevete -. It's not just about redevelopment, but also about valorisation».

Some inconvenience for the viability "but we will try to take into account the needs of citizens and traders".

Eight months to redesign one of the most beautiful, but also the most degraded views.

"We are proud to give legs to this work which will be fundamental in the process of enhancing the historic city center - adds Sanna - At the same time we ask citizens and economic operators to be patient for the inconveniences resulting from the closure of the square to traffic for the execution of the works".

The project, financed with one and a half million through funds from the Pnrr, involves the construction of the new basalt and Sardinian white granite flooring, a new lighting system, the creation of green flowerbeds with semicircular wooden benches and the arrangement of racks for bicycles. All the works will be carried out in the presence of an archaeologist, who will follow up on any archaeological finds, and an agronomist for the protection of the trees.

«In recent months we have worked to put in place all the preparatory activities for the opening of the construction sites. Being able to prepare the announcement by December 31st allowed us to obtain a bonus of 428 thousand euros - explained the councilor for Public Works Simone Prevete - just to respond to those who spoke of inertia of the Giunta ».

The excavation campaign, financed by the Municipality with 70 thousand euros, will start at a later stage, pending the completion of the investigation relating to the environmental remediation near the former fuel station and the walls of the judicial palace.

At least until the end of the year, motorists will have to deal with a new road network. "The presence of the school makes the area particularly busy - explained the commander of the municipal police Gianni Uras - we have therefore provided parking stalls to be used with a parking disc for a maximum of 15 minutes, from 8 to 9 and from 1 to 14.30, in via Vittorio Emanuele II, in the section between piazza Manno and piazza Giovanni Paolo II and in via Angioy, in the section between the intersection with vico Martignano up to the intersection with piazza Manno and via Crispi».

There will also be an exception to the ban on transit in the restricted traffic area in via Montenegro and via Angioy, in the direction and stretch up to piazza Manno (excluding vehicles with a full load exceeding 3.5 tons). In via Angioy, the even numbered side, in the section between the intersection with via Montenegro and the intersection with via La Pace, there is a ban on parking and stopping.
