«A rare example of uncommon spirit of sacrifice, solidarity and courage» . With these words the prefect of Oristano Salvatore Angieri recalled Vincenzo Curtale , the 40-year-old Oristano who died on August 15th 2015 after he dived without hesitation into the agitated and dangerous waters of San Giovanni di Sinis to save two tourists in difficulty .

He brought the two people he didn't even know to safety, returned to shore but that gesture was fatal for him. Today, on the occasion of the celebrations for the 77th anniversary of the foundation of the Republic, Curtale was awarded the gold medal in memory «in memory of that immense sacrifice that moves us all» said the prefect, handing the award to his mother Bonaria Cois.

In the presence of the civil and military authorities, honors of merit of the Republic were also presented to Major Marshal Carlo Barbera, in service at the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri of Oristano; to Francesca Cappai, health educator in service at the ASL; to Rita Maria Caria and Franca Miscali, officials of the Prefecture of Oristano; to Marco Casu, postman and to his colleague from Poste Italiane Monica Garippa, who is retired.
