Transparency first, then decisions. This is the thrust of the motion signed by councilors Francesco Federico, Francesca Marchi, Carla Della Volpe, Speranza Perra, Massimiliano Daga, Maria Obinu, Umberto Marcoli, and Giuseppe Obinu, who are calling for clear passage in the City Council regarding the redevelopment project for the Via Mazzini market.
The document calls for "the complete submission of the project documents, from the executive project to the feasibility studies, and the economic-financial framework," along with a "detailed report to the Chamber on the administrative process," with particular attention to relations with the Superintendency and the coverage of the remaining funding gaps. The motion also commits the mayor and council to ensuring "the involvement of the Council in subsequent phases" and to opening new opportunities for public discussion with stakeholders and citizens.
This position addresses a hot topic: the market has been closed for ten years, and the project, worth approximately €6 million compared to €4 million available, remains plagued by uncertainties, both financial and permitting. Among these is the potential for the property to be placed under protected status upon its 70th birthday, with the consequent involvement of the Superintendency and the introduction of potential design restrictions.
Still lingering, however, are the doubts that emerged after the public meeting held a week ago. The project plans presented, as some minority councilors noted, failed to address some of the options discussed in the commission, including an open structure with a removable roof, suggested as a possible balance between commercial functions and urban space.
