« A beautiful boy was born, weighing three kilos and four hundred grams. His name is Lorenzo , he's very well. And we wish the child, his parents and his two little brothers many best wishes."
Doctor Francesca Campus, director of the gynecology department of the San Martino hospital in Oristano, said this with satisfaction at the end of the first caesarean section carried out in the new delivery room of the department.
A room that was inaugurated at the end of 2019, but had never come into operation.
The new general management, directed by Dr. Angelo Maria Serusi , strongly wanted this result.
«A further achievement for a department that represents one of the flagships of our Oristano hospital», underlined Doctor Serusi, «a department that therefore offers cutting-edge services for the safety of mothers and babies and which receives, every day, lots of appreciation from the patients and their families."
THE ROOM - As mentioned, the ribbon cutting took place just under four years ago . Then the stop imposed by the pandemic period and the purchase of furniture and machinery, so that the delivery room could finally come into operation. The arrival of little Lorenzo into the world inaugurated it in the best way possible. «The result of a great synergy work», added Dr. Campus, «a synergy between the gynecology and obstetrics operational unit, which strongly believed in it with all its professionals and operators, of the anesthesia and resuscitation, from the pediatric operational unit, Risk Management, health management and company management. It was a great pride to have performed this first caesarean section in our new delivery unit, necessary to guarantee safety for mothers and unborn child. But also to comply with all legal provisions and regulations with an operating room and a delivery room, equipped with cutting-edge instrumentation."
THE SURGERY – The caesarean section lasted about an hour. «Everyone collaborated perfectly», said Dr. Campus, «we thank the anesthetists and all the operating room operators who supported us». Not only. "The parents also chose to make a donation of the child's blood and umbilical cord for solidarity and stem cell purposes, because our department has also been a blood and umbilical cord collection center for several years." So a new blue ribbon is added to those placed on the walls of the department. This time a special ribbon: that of the first intervention in the new delivery block, «a result that was due to all the mothers of the Oristano area, who really always feel at home in our department», reported the director of the operational unit of gynecology of the San Martino hospital.
