Oristano, helmets at the Sartiglia? Knights ready to stop.

All eyes are on tomorrow's meeting of the Provincial Commission for the Supervision of Public Entertainment.
The hope is that an exemption from the Abodi decree will be granted, but the fear is that the Sartiglia could be halted again. The riders reiterate that they cannot race with helmets, and "if they force us to wear them, we'll accompany Su Componidori on the course and then everyone goes home," reiterates Andrea Manias, president of the riders' association.
No star race or pairs, it would be the third and painful stop after the year of the strike and the post-Covid edition.
While on the one hand they continue with the preparations (with huge costs to organize every aspect of the party), on the other hand the concern is growing.
"We'll wait for tomorrow's meeting, then we'll gather as knights and make a decision," comments President Manias. The position is clear for now. "It's impossible to wear a helmet with a mask; it could be very dangerous," he observes, "and if we remove the mask, it's no longer a Sartiglia; it would be just another village pariglia."
No devices, otherwise the equestrian carousel will stop. "We're ready to parade to Via Duomo, accompany the leader for the crossing of swords under the star and the blessing, and then stop here." This hypothesis is also shared by the Guilds.
