The preliminary hearing in the death of Chiara Carta, the 13-year-old from Silì, killed by her mother, has been postponed until December 10.

Judge Cristiana Argiolas took time to allow the mother, Monica Vinci, to attend the hearing. She also requested that the head of the REMS facility where the mother is being held inform the judge of the woman's current health conditions and whether there are any persistent signs of danger to society. The woman, represented by lawyer Gianluca Aste, is represented. Lawyer Anna Paola Putzu announced that the father, Piero Carta, will join the civil action.

Everything has been postponed for two months, but in the meantime, the report on Monica Vinci's condition, particularly regarding her potential danger to society, could be crucial for the future developments of the legal proceedings. If the 54-year-old is deemed dangerous to society, a trial would be required; a dismissal of case could not be issued.

Otherwise, the case could proceed through an ordinary preliminary hearing and, if the case is found to be completely insane (as the defense and the judge's consultant maintain), conclude with a dismissal.

According to the investigation, the 54-year-old had been suffering from severe personal distress for some time . She had previously been undergoing treatment, but the illness had worsened again, leading to the tragedy. A specific motive has never emerged (initially, it was rumored that Chiara intended to move in with her father Piero). Only Monica Vinci could reveal what happened on February 18, 2023, in the house on Via Martiri del Risorgimento, but so far there has been silence.
