Sardinians are among the most generous in Italy when it comes to organ donation . Many municipalities were awarded because they were very virtuous: Sassari and Cagliari among the big cities, Nuoro and Alghero among the medium-large ones, Oliena and Cardedu among the smallest.

Sardinia is third among the Italian Regions, with a donation index of 66/100 (consent to the donation of 76%) , well above the national average of 58.64. Big heart above all in the Nuoro area, which is the best province in Italy, first out of 107. The others also do well: Sassari is fifth, South Sardinia eighth, Oristano ninth and Cagliari 13th .

Numbers certified by the latest edition of the Gift Index, an annual report produced by the National Transplant Center which analyzes the numbers of declarations of will to donate organs and tissues registered in 2022. The values are expressed in cents and take into account some indicators such as the percentage of consents, that of abstentions and the number of documents issued.

After the data at the provincial level, let's see the Sardinian centers awarded.

Among the large cities (over 100,000 inhabitants) , Sassari takes second place nationally with a gift index of 67.69/100, thanks to a consensus rate of 79.1% with an abstention of 41.1%. Cagliari also appears in the same classification in sixth place . Among the medium-large municipalities (30-100 thousand inhabitants) there are two Sardinian cities on the national podium, Nuoro second and Alghero third, with a gift index of 74.07/100 and 72.30/100 respectively . Oliena is instead seventh in Italy among medium-small municipalities (5-30 thousand inhabitants), while Cardedu is third among small municipalities (less than 5 thousand inhabitants) with the highest gift index in the whole region, 92.98 /100, and a 93.8% approval rating .
