Forty cases of online child pornography in 2021 with three arrests and 27 complaints and in 2022 already one arrest and 17 complaints. The numbers linked to pedophilia and online child pornography in Sardinia are worrying. Today, on the National Day for the Fight against Pedophilia, the director of the Postal Police and Communications Department of Sardinia, Francesco Greco outlines a picture of the situation.

"Pedophilia is a constant threat to the integrity of children and young people that today goes beyond the real world and also spreads online - underlines Greco -. What happened in the last two years due to the pandemic emergency, has accelerated the processes of rapprochement between children. and the internet, has intensified the relationship of mutual attraction that already existed between adolescence and online social network services and has influenced the daily habits of each of us, imposing an ever closer relationship with the virtual world , but showing its side just as quickly dark ".

According to the data provided by the Sardinia Postal Department, the regional trend sees an increase in cases treated both in 2021 and in 2022. What is also worrying is the 50% increase , in 2021, of the children involved : minors approached by pedophiles online, on social networks, on gaming platforms or in messaging chat.

"It is unfortunately sad to see that, in the last year, the analysis of child pornography images and the investigative activities carried out throughout the national territory, with the coordination of the CNCPO, have made it possible to save small victims, the object of real sexual abuse. perpetrated by subjects who belong to their circle of trust - the manager continues -. This is a fact that reaffirms the operational commitment that the Postal and Communications Police express daily and also highlights the growing danger of subjects who use the network to solicitation and child pornography purposes ".
