A one billion euro investment plan to strengthen Sardinia's water system and improve its efficiency. This is what the regional councilor for Public Works, Pierluigi Saiu, anticipated to the national commissioner for the water emergency, Nicola Dell'Acqua, during a meeting in the Region in view of the next meeting of the national control room, in which the Sardinia will put forward its own proposals regarding investments deemed strategic.

«Unlike other regions, in Sardinia today we do not suffer from a lack of water resources. This year's volumes", specifies Saiu, "are in line with those of last year, even if the distribution by geographical areas has changed a little. Let's start, therefore, from a positive figure regarding the total water collected in Sardinia. However, it is essential to act to increase the capacity of our reservoirs which is not fully exploited. We discussed a plan of interventions necessary to improve collection capacity . In addition to the interventions on the existing basins, the works that will lead to the creation of two new reservoirs will contribute to this result: Cumbidanovu, in Orgosolo, and Monti Nieddu, in Sarroch".

A significant part of the investment program that will be presented to the national control room will concern interconnections and the distribution network: «The latter, in particular, is the part on which it is necessary to intervene more decisively. Together with the commissioner", explains Saiu, "we therefore evaluated not only the amount of resources needed but also the actual spending capacity, in which the role of the contracting authorities is fundamental. We have analyzed the various critical issues and analyzed the possible solutions with reference, above all, to the most difficult situations. We have arranged to meet at the control room meeting where we will present a one billion euro investment program for Sardinia", concludes the councillor.
