Carabinieri from the Cagliari RIS (Special Operations Unit) and their colleagues from the Olbia territorial unit inspected a property on Via Pietro Aretino, Olbia, owned by Maria Giovanna Meloni and Giorgio Beccu, the two suspects in the disappearance of Rosa Bechere.
This is the first step in a new investigation conducted by prosecutor Alessandro Bosco into the death—the death is considered certain—of the sixty-year-old woman who vanished on November 25, 2022. The investigation was recently taken over by the Attorney General's Office, which gave new impetus to the investigation by assigning the case, which appears to have no alternative hypothesis other than homicide, although the death could be the unintended consequence of extremely serious conduct.
The case is said to be a fatal drug overdose and subsequent concealment of the body. This is the theory the lawyers of the missing woman's partner, criminal lawyers Cristina and Abele Cherchi, have been insisting on for months. And the prosecutor, also based on the evidence provided by the two lawyers, has begun a thorough investigation. Today, the first action on the scene begins.
The story
Rosa Bechere, 60, a retired woman, ill, and terrified even at the thought of leaving her home, disappeared on the afternoon of November 25, 2022. According to new findings, she may have died that same day, between 3 and 6 PM. Compared to the initial investigation, which sought evidence of a brutal crime, the prosecutor is now working on a different theory: death was caused by a "treatment" (massive use of psychotropic drugs) intended to stun the victim, keeping her in a state of torpor so she could be robbed. The investigation is once again focusing on Maria Giovanna Meloni and Giorgio Beccu, the couple under investigation for whom a request for the case to be closed had been filed, but has now been effectively shelved by the Attorney General's Office. According to the documents, on the evening of November 25, the couple ordered three pizzas. Investigations are reportedly underway to determine whether Giorgio Beccu lied when he said, "Three pizzas, yes, because I eat two." A red herring? Lawyers Cristina and Abele Cherchi have denied some of the allegations made by the suspects. There's talk of an alleged red herring. The couple reportedly spoke of a mysterious man Bechere frequented and seen on the evening of November 25, 2022. It has now emerged that the man is a doctor, already interviewed by the Carabinieri, who denies having seen the woman that day.
The theory is this: Rosa Bechere was alone on the evening of November 25th. After falling ill (perhaps due to an overdose of psychotropic drugs), she died. Her body was disposed of through operations completed on Via Aretino (near the suspects' home) and then taken to the sea or to a pigsty several kilometers from Olbia.
