The death of Giovanni Marchionni, a 20-year-old Neapolitan, remains without an apparent cause. He was found dead Friday morning aboard a yacht docked in the Marina di Portisco, Olbia. The autopsy, performed this morning at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Sassari, ordered by Tempio Prosecutor Milena Aucone, did not resolve the mystery surrounding the young man's death. He apparently died of cardiac arrest. It has not been determined whether the cause of death was fumes from a chemical toilet or from the batteries on the boat, as initially suspected after the discovery.

An immunohistochemical investigation will be necessary to detect any positivity to the marker indicative of asphyxia caused by noxious gases.

The autopsy, performed by coroner Francesco Serra, was attended by expert witnesses appointed by the family's attorney, Gabriele Satta, and the boat owners' lawyer, Giampaolo Murrighile. The funeral will be held Friday in Bacoli, and the town's mayor, Josi Gerardo Della Ragione, has declared a day of mourning.
