With the body of water where the yacht sank closed off, recovery operations have begun for Atina, the 47-meter yacht devoured by flames last August off the Le Saline beach in Olbia.

The Conquest MB1 pontoon, the same one used to recover the Costa Concordia, left from the Cocciani dock and is on its way to the wreck, towed by the Italian-flagged tugboat Cala Azzurra and the port tugboat Mascalzone Scorciato, and tomorrow morning it will be positioned at the site where the yacht sank.

The operation will begin with an underwater inspection to verify the site and the conditions of Atina and will last a whole day. Then, the wreck, now lying on its side, will be harnessed, straightened and lifted, using the super crane on board the pontoon, and subsequently embarked, by November 5th.

Once the operations are concluded, the affected stretch of sea will be reclaimed with the recovery of any debris that emerged during the intervention. Secured on the floating platform, Atina will depart for Piombino for its demolition.
