14 years after the events, the case of the most sensational theft in the history of the Costa Smeralda is closed. The Court of Appeal of Sassari has rejected the appeal of the lawyers of the princess of the Saudi royal house, Deema Bint Sultan Bin Abdulaziz, who asked for 9 million and 900 thousand euros in compensation for the theft committed on August 5, 2009, in the presidential suite of the Colonna Pevero hotel in Porto Cervo.
The princess, assisted by the lawyers Carlo Dalla Vedova and Federico Igor Ludwig, after a dinner, discovered that the safe (with the jewels inside, 200,000 euros and 100,000 dollars) had been taken away. It later emerged that the door to the suite had been opened without a burglary. The Saudis filed a civil suit against the company that owns the hotel, Cordero srl of Olbia (represented by lawyers Antonio Romei, Pierantonio Morabito and Stefano Oggiano). Cause defined with a sentence (now final) that does not accept the princess's requests.
Not only will Cordero srl not pay the almost ten million euros in compensation, but it has obtained a sentence condemning Princess Dema to pay around 10 thousand euros for drinks and the use of the wellness center at the Colonna hotel. According to the property, in fact, the princess, leaving the hotel evidently annoyed, would not have paid for the extras. The Court of Appeal of Sassari essentially confirmed the sentence of the first instance of the Court of Tempio. The Carabinieri and the secret services managed to find part of the loot and return it to Princess Dema . An offender from Olbia would have helped the Arma recover the jewels found in the cavity of a ferry cabin.
