A pile of used clothes, carelessly thrown in front of the entrance to the Caritas point of the Parish of the Holy Family. It is not the first time that it has happened, the volunteers report. An act that translates into a useless waste of aid and disrespectful for those in need.
The complaint comes from social media where the photo of the bags and boxes full of clothes was posted.
" Once again they have used the Caritas entrance as an illegal dump, leaving this mess. - the text underlines - We do not have warehouses to store out-of-season clothing, and since we are also few volunteers, we collect what we need and distribute it immediately. We spend a lot of time throwing away the rubbish they bring us and that not even the waste centre is willing to continue accepting. The situation is increasingly unsustainable, I ask you to share this appeal and if there is anyone who can help us solve this problem, please come forward".
Clothes left unattended in the open, scattered by dogs, stray cats and scavengers, not only transform the area into an open-air garbage dump but become unusable and end up in the trash. "It is not possible to leave everything in sight - explain the volunteers - because what is donated will be worn by people who, even if poor, have not lost their dignity". From Caritas an appeal to responsibility: "Donate yes, but with attention and respect, on the days and at the times indicated, and only when the presence of volunteers is guaranteed. The gesture of solidarity cannot turn into degradation".
