A 40-year-old entrepreneur from Olbia has been hospitalized for several days in the intensive care unit of the Giovanni Paolo II hospital after contracting the malaria virus.
The man had returned from a vacation abroad when he felt ill and was rushed to the city health facility in critical condition. He is currently in septic shock and doctors have been administering life-saving therapy to him for a couple of days.
What initially seemed to be a simple increase in body temperature and a flu-like fever, turned out to be a serious malaria infection that left the man in critical condition. The entrepreneur remains in a pharmacological coma and his prognosis remains reserved.
The malaria virus, which is not transmissible from person to person, is transmitted by the bite of the anopheles mosquito, which acts as a vector for the parasite.
