The Olbia man , just over twenty years old, stabbed last night after an argument outside a bar on the Gallura city's seafront, is in serious condition. The victim was taken to the hospital with multiple wounds, the most serious to his throat (the knife blade apparently struck very close to the carotid artery). According to reports, the investigation (being entrusted to the State Police) is investigating attempted murder .
While medical personnel were providing first aid to the victim, the perpetrator of the stabbing had already fled . Officers from the Olbia Police Station, led by Director Fabio Scanu, responded to the scene. A North African man in his thirties is a strong suspect, having allegedly argued with the young man from Olbia . The suspect's responsibilities are currently unclear. Pietro Carzedda, the victim's family's lawyer, released a brief statement: "The limited evidence we have confirms attempted murder."
The Italian State Police Union (SIULP) has issued a statement regarding the latest episode of violence in Olbia. The union's provincial secretary, Massimiliano Pala, said: " An escalation of violence has inevitably increased the perception of insecurity among citizens , so much so that several public establishments have been subject to closure orders adopted by the Police Headquarters, precisely to stem situations deemed particularly critical. The city's constant growth, combined with the associated increased security needs, has now made it clear that the organizational model and staffing of the State Police, currently at around 50, are inadequate."
Pala concludes: "The State must continue to be present and recognizable in its territories, especially those like Olbia, which are undergoing profound economic and social transformations and require adequate institutional attention. The SIULP will continue to vigorously support all initiatives aimed at strengthening public safety and enhancing the work performed daily by the men and women of the State Police. The stabbing that occurred last night in Olbia is yet another alarm bell that cannot be ignored. It is time for concrete decisions, structural responses, and the necessary investments ."
