Starting today, Olbia is a safer city: the video surveillance system, including license plate recognition, was activated this morning. 223 cameras are now operational, positioned at strategic points throughout the city and connected to the local and state police control centers.
"This is a great achievement for the city: those who have nothing to fear will be able to rest easy, while criminals' crimes will be short-lived," said Mayor Settimo Nizzi, specifying that the system's launch was approved today by a council resolution. From the city's main entrances to the squares and the Fausto Noce urban park, the cameras monitor not only traffic violations but also environmental crimes, including littering, and crimes against municipal property.
A three million euro project developed in 2017, which received approval from the DPO on December 22nd, the video surveillance system will be implemented in the coming months, increasing the number of cameras at waste collection centers, for example, and increasing the number of officers. "In Sardinia," the mayor said, "it is one of the most advanced video surveillance systems."
