The Pedemontana road was reopened on Monday evening, closed for over a year due to a landslide that in February 2024 had caused a boulder to fall from the rocky ridge of Colle Sant'Onofrio, making the stretch dangerous and impassable. The completion of the safety interventions was carried out by the Edilizia Acrobatica company, commissioned in recent months following the calamitous events that had affected the area: it removed over 140 tons of debris and potentially dangerous rocks.
The works, as anticipated by the commissioner Giovanni Pirisi, were concluded on schedule , with a rapid but essential intervention to guarantee the stability of the slope and the safety of the road. Also crucial was the collaboration with the owners of the private land overlooking the road who, according to their competence, had to intervene in the stretches of tested land to eliminate the states of danger.
The Pedemontana, inaugurated in 2020, represents a strategic connection between the Monte Jaca district and the road network towards Oliena and Orgosolo . Its closure had caused considerable inconvenience to local traffic. Now, with its reopening, full functionality is restored to a road that is fundamental for mobility in the area. Meanwhile, by the end of the month, work is also expected to begin on the Mughina tunnel, for which the Region has allocated an additional ten million euros to secure the infrastructure.
