After the compensation of the scammed, Marco Palumbo, father of Paolo, the twenty-four-year-old chef from Oristano suffering from ALS, for whose treatment a fundraiser had been promoted, announced a request for plea bargaining, with a request for admission to public utility works deemed "misleading" by the prosecution, and ended up on trial before the Court of Nuoro for continued fraud and impersonation.

Marco Palumbo, defended by the lawyers Gianfranco Siuni and Mario Gusi, has already provided for the reparation of the damage against the three offended persons who have sued him. One of these has already remitted the lawsuit. The other two, including a lawyer from Reggio Calabria, have been summoned for the next hearing, to see if they too want to file the lawsuit. In that case, the accusation of fraud would no longer be prosecuted, but that of substitution of person would remain standing: to the neurologist Vincenzo Mascia who followed the patient, Paolo's father would have led to believe that the Israeli doctor Dimitrios Karoussis had placed his son in a paid and particularly expensive experimental medical treatment. A request for a plea deal was brought forward for this charge.

Marco Palumbo is accused of having started a crowdfunding collection on the GoFundMe platform and collected around 150 thousand euros on Poste Pay in an account in his son's name. Money that was supposed to be used to support those experimental treatments in Israel with the doctor Dimitrios Karoussis which, however, would never have taken place.
