Boat parties are allowed, but keep the volume low. The anti-noise ordinance, announced a few days ago by the Maritime Director of Northern Sardinia, Gianluca D'Agostino, officially goes into effect today along the long stretch of coast from Alghero to Cala Goloritzé.

It is forbidden to disturb the peace (within 500 meters of the coast) with music and excessively loud noises that could jeopardize the safety of life at sea.

"The measure has a threefold purpose," D'Agostino emphasizes, "and the first is related to navigation safety; extremely loud noises prevent access to emergency channels but also prevent proper navigation. Secondly, it protects the environment, as certain noises and sounds, including those from water features, are extremely annoying for wildlife, not just underwater. Thirdly, and not least, it encourages civic-minded behavior among those who engage in certain behaviors to consider that not everyone is interested in or required to tolerate loud music." There are no bans on celebrations or the transport of amplification equipment, but rather on having fun while respecting the rules .

"The ordinance will certainly serve as a deterrent for the first few days, and the staff's approach will be to educate those at sea to reconsider their behavior if it's inappropriate," D'Agostino concludes . "We'd like to analyze the results and determine whether our intention to avoid an administrative fine will remain . Despite the increase in dinghy rentals, which will peak around mid-August, no particularly critical behavior has been detected at this time. In the meantime, we hope the ordinance becomes known to a large number of people; we will also publicize it through our social media."
