Over three and a half hours of deliberations today at the Sassari Court of Appeal in the trial for the murder of Nicola Pasquarelli. The 78-year-old pensioner was beaten and killed, then burned in the pine forest of Piandanna, in front of the Ecological Center, in August 2023.

The only person charged in the case is 50-year-old Antonio Luigi Fiori from Sassari, identified by Aurora Addis, a friend of both, as the perpetrator. However, Fiori died a month after the events. The act occurred in a context of extreme degradation, exacerbated by drug addiction.

Last year, Fiori was acquitted by the preliminary hearing judge (GUP) for not having committed the crime. The prosecutor appealed the decision and, in the second instance hearing with prosecutor Lara Senatore, reiterated their request today: 20 years in prison. Defense attorney Marco Palmieri and the civil parties represented by lawyers Michele Galia, Vittorio Delogu, and Gianni Emilio Censori then argued.

The court, presided over by Salvatore Marinaro, with Maura Nardin at his side, and then composed of a popular jury, adjourned the hearing until February 2, 2026, for further hearings.
