A tender on territorial continuity with the island of Asinara which sinks twice and a ferry with which the connection service with Porto Torres will be carried out which alarms local voluntary associations.

Romano Chessa, president of Athena Trekking, Adonella Mellino, president of the Turritan Volunteer Consultation and Gavino Manunta, president of the "La Sorgente" voluntary association, are the first to raise the problem, after learning that the Region has called a tender procedure for awarding the service. "We have verified that the ship that will have to guarantee the connection - the representatives of the associations explain - does not have the suitable requirements to guarantee the access, mobility and safe transport of people with reduced mobility, in particular those forced to use of chairs and wheels ".

Thus in the letter addressed to the president of the region, Christian Solinas, to the regional councilor for transport, Antonio Moro and to the mayor of Porto Torres, Massimo Mulas. "How can you think of making a million-dollar contract without foreseeing that the means employed have an elevator, a mobile platform or a stairlift for the disabled ", ask the representatives of the associations.

The journey between the Turritano port and the Cala Reale pier takes about an hour and a half, which is difficult for disabled people to sustain in case of stormy seas . "Or is it expected that people with disabilities will be loaded like sacks of potatoes and carried in the arms of sailors up steep and narrow stairs to the upper deck," ask the representatives of the associations.

"It would be an unworthy and demeaning discriminatory treatment for citizens who, suffering from serious health problems , have the right to be treated with dignity ". Therefore, while deeming that it is not a question of a "precise political will, but of an error due to the superficiality of some bureaucrat", the presidents Mellino, Chessa and Manunta "trust in the intervention of the Region to guarantee safe and dignified transport on a par with all citizens" .
