"The strongest condemnation of the content of the demonstration promoted by the Student Bloc, steeped in nationalist, xenophobic rhetoric and nostalgia for ideologies that history has already condemned."
The tough stance comes from the Metropolitan Chamber of Labor (CGIL) and the ANPI Cagliari, in view of the rally announced for tomorrow, November 1st, by the far-right association close to CasaPound , which has called on "young people from the south" to gather in the Sardinian capital for a neo-fascist-themed event.
The demonstration is expected to start on Via Cervi, and the route has not yet been determined, but Cagliari's anti-fascists have already organized a counter-demonstration for a day that, according to the premises, promises to be tense in terms of public order.
"The promoters of the demonstration," reads a statement from CGIL and ANPI, "declare themselves against Ius Scholae and immigration, defining them, quote, as 'infamous instruments of ethnic substitution and competition against our youth. '" According to the two organizations, "these statements, in substance and form, represent an unacceptable attack on the fundamental values of the Republican Constitution born of the Resistance."
"This is also a way, which we consider unacceptable," they declare, "to fuel divisions among young people, both Italian and foreign, at a time when society needs solidarity, rights, and inclusion."
According to the union and the partisans' association, the real battle for the future of young people lies in stable and dignified employment, quality public education, and a welfare system that leaves no one behind, certainly not in propaganda that fuels the flames of intolerance.
For this reason, CGIL and ANPI Cagliari invite "citizens, democratic associations, institutions and the world of education to be vigilant and firmly reject any attempt to rewrite history or to bring back into the streets symbols and languages that belong to fascism".
