More and more elderly and non-self-sufficient people are cared for at home in the Cagliari area

With the "Menzus in domo" project ("better at home"), more and more elderly and frail people are assisted at home through Adi, integrated home care, in the Area Vasta district of Cagliari . These are care paths intended for elderly or non-self-sufficient people and those in frail conditions, with ongoing pathologies, assisted at home by a multidisciplinary team of professionals (doctors, nurses, physiotherapists) capable of responding to different health needs.

Currently, there are already over 2000 people supported in their homes, 1019 new activations in 2023 compared to 697 in 2022, with an increase of 46%. Most of these are elderly people over eighty, but there is also no shortage of young people and even children cared for in critical areas, with the help of resuscitation doctors and expert nurses. The treatments aim to stabilize the clinical picture, limit functional decline and improve the person's quality of life in their family environment, avoiding, as far as possible, the need for hospitalization or residential care.

"It is better to be treated at home, in your own home, with many well-known points of reference around you and surrounded by the affection of your family, especially when you are elderly or frail and therefore more vulnerable", explains Gianni Salis, director of the Socio-Health Area District Vasta, «Thanks to the collaboration of the general practitioner, the true fulcrum of the project, we managed to increase the number of patient activations in Adi by 46% in the first 8 months of this year compared to last year».

«The ASL of Cagliari has strengthened the home care service of the Cagliari Area Vasta District with the inclusion of doctors, nurses and social workers», explains Marcello Tidore, manager of the Company, «this has led to the elimination of the lists of expectation and, thanks also to the great collaboration of general practitioners, a notable increase in the activation of treatments and consequently in the number of patients assisted appropriately in their own homes".
