An investigation by the Court of Auditors will verify the millionaire expenses of the "Mont'e Prama" Foundation of Cabras , as well as those for the organization of the Archeologika 2022 event, the archaeological tourism expo set up in October in the spaces of the covered promenade of the Bastione Saint Remy of Cagliari. The file was recently opened by the regional prosecutor, Bruno Domenico Tridico, but the investigation has not yet been assigned to any magistrate.
The initiative of the public prosecutor's office came after the recent controversies, which also reached the Regional Council during the discussion of the Finance Act , which enlivened the regional political debate. Only after the file has been assigned to one of the deputy regional prosecutors will the investigation delegation be formalized to acquire the documents and complete the careful verification of the budgets and individual expenditure items.
The controversy over the budget of the Mont'e Prama Foundation exploded just before Christmas, when the dispute with the Municipality of Cabras was consummated , in whose territory the statues of the Giants were found and which houses the museum where the sculptures are kept . The mayor of the lagoon city, Andrea Abis, who is a director of the Foundation, had voted against the budget estimate for 2023, during the last meeting of the Board of Directors. Then, clarifying the reasons for his decision, the mayor had generically referred to some choices adopted and not shared "not by me but by the Municipality that I represent and that I must protect". In a note, the Foundation itself had specified that the approval of the financial statements had the unanimous positive opinion of the Board of Auditors.
From that moment, however, the expenses of the Organization which received huge resources both from the Ministry and from the Region to enhance the "giants" (but also funding for the creation of the Archeologika 2022 event) ended up at the center of journalistic insights, including national and requests for clarification from regional councilors.
And now, exercising its function, the Regional Prosecutor's Office of the Court of Auditors has decided to open an investigation.
