In Monserrato, driving has become an art. Not because of the traffic or the signs, but because of the potholes that dot the asphalt like lunar craters. The citizens, exasperated, have decided to tackle the problem with an infallible weapon: irony.
And so, after the proposal to rename the city from “Monserrato – metropolitan city” to “Monserrato – city of potholes”, now there are also car stickers with the words: “I’m not drunk, I avoid the potholes of Monserrato”.
The initiative was launched by the administrators of the Facebook group La voce di Monserrato. "We will distribute them for free to our fellow citizens," explains Tonio Vacca, tobacconist and promoter of the protest. "It is an ironic, fun protest, but also a way to make the Municipality understand that we cannot continue to ignore the problem."
And the problem seems to be there for all to see – and under the wheels. Via Cesare Cabras, one of the busiest streets in the city, has become a symbol of the gruyere roads. But it is not alone: also via Caracalla, which connects Monserrato to Pirri, is becoming a nightmare for drivers and motorcyclists.
The rains have only made the situation worse, turning the city streets into an obstacle course worthy of a rally. In the meantime, while the Monserratini rely on humor, the wait for a concrete intervention by the administration continues.
