The Nostalgia Awards and the City of Sassari Prize were presented yesterday in Piazza Santa Caterina in Sassari, during an event sponsored by the Municipality and now in its 61st year. The Golden Candeliere was awarded to Ada Lucia Marongiu, a native of Sassari who emigrated to the United States in 1964, where she lives in Massachusetts. Antonia Rassu , born in 1962 and living in Como, received the Silver Candeliere.

This award was given to the Sassari native who has lived on the peninsula the longest and who returns to the city for the candelabra. Finally, the bronze candelabra went to Giuseppe Cattaneo , born in Siena but resident in the capital since 1941. As previously announced, the special Golden Candelabra went to Giuseppina Canestrelli , the cardiac anesthesiologist from Sassari, recognized for her humanitarian and professional commitment, which has seen her collaborate with Emergency in war zones for a long time.

During the event, presented by journalist Rachele Falchi, several recently deceased Sassarese residents were remembered, including photographer Carlo Antero Sanna, who narrated the city, the Candelieri, and the Guilds through images, and Guild members Alberto Chessa (Shoemakers) and Giovanni Toschi Pilo (Travelers). Gavino Sanna , of the Farmers' Guild, received a plaque on the occasion of his 71st Faradda, while Gaetano De Nurchis of the Blacksmiths' Guild was awarded a medal for his 20th descent.

The commission that awarded the prizes was composed of Mayor Giuseppe Mascia , Councillor for Culture Nicoletta Puggioni, Director of the Culture, Tourism and Major Events sector Marge Cannas, President of the Intergremio Fabio Madau, historians Paolo Cau and Antonello Mattone, journalist and writer Cosimo Filigheddu and professor Marinetta Milia, member of the Rome Committee of the Dante Alighieri Society of Rome.
