There are bonds that are born in the blood, but are discovered only with time.

Andrea Bellini and Chiara Balistreri are brother and sister, who grew up unaware of each other's existence, until a message changed everything. Chiara, 22, from Bologna, has become a symbol of resilience and courage . Her story has gone around Italy, told on several occasions on Verissimo , after she reported the violence she suffered from her ex-partner, arrested in November of this year in Romania.

Chance
Andrea is 25 years old, he is from Monserrato and he studies Nursing . Between volunteer shifts in 118 and his passion for motorcycles, he would never have imagined that one day he would discover that he was not an only child. He was 17, it was his mother who revealed it to him, almost by chance. "It all started from a stupid conversation, I asked her if my father still had hair, she confirmed and asked me if I wanted to see him, I said no. Then she told me about Chiara" says Andrea. It took seven years before he found the courage to contact her. "I needed answers". So, on May 1, 2024, he decided to write to that stranger on Instagram: "We should be children of the same father, if you want we can talk about it". The wait was short, after 40 minutes, the answer came: "Why should I believe you?" Skepticism, doubts, fear of a truth too big. Then the pieces began to fit together: her family in Cagliari, the physical resemblance, and finally her father's name.

The video call
The next day they looked into each other’s eyes for the first time, through a phone screen. The video call lasted more than two hours. Between uncertain smiles, Andrea and Chiara stopped being strangers. “It’s not like me, but I felt a deep trust from the first moment. It seemed like we had always known each other,” he recalls, still emotional. Two parallel lives: “We grew up with two working mothers, who worked hard to give us a better life” and two complementary characters, he more reserved, she more extroverted.

The first meeting
In October, the first meeting in Cagliari. "Chiara knows the city well, every summer she goes to visit her grandmother." This time, however, there was an additional reason to return. "We spent as much time together as possible, now we talk almost every day." A heavy shadow looms over the girl's life: a toxic relationship that has turned into a nightmare. She was 14 when she met what she thought was her first love. Affection soon turned into control, jealousy into obsession. Then, the first slap. And from there, the abyss. For years she endured, trapped in fear and the illusion that something could change. But violence doesn't stop on its own. At 22, after a brutal attack that sent her to the hospital, she found the strength to report it. "When I found out, two years had passed, I felt helpless," confesses Andrea. "I wanted to protect her, to prevent it from happening. If we had met before, I would have done anything. Maybe it only happened now because we weren't ready yet."

The future
Andrea and Chiara don't know what the future holds for them, but they have a dream: to live closer together . "We are very busy, I with my studies and 118, she with her work. But we always find time for each other. I am her biggest fan, even from a distance."

A bond suspended for years, a past to rebuild and a future to write together.
