Workers in the fishing sector of Sulcis Iglesiente in a state of agitation.

A mobilization – explains the Cgil union – that is based on the «concern for the lack of attention by the Region with respect to the problems related to the interdiction of the stretches of sea affected by military exercises».

"We sent two different requests for meetings to the President of the Region, to the General Directorate of the Presidency, to the General Affairs service - explains the regional secretary of Flai Cgil Valentina Marci - the first on June 19, then a reminder on September 2, both were completely ignored".

According to the trade union, which underlines the "growing tension among workers", it is necessary to "urgently" convene a table headed by the presidency of the Region "to update the protocols that regulate times and compensation due due to the enormous inconvenience created for fishermen" . "This is an important activity on an island like Sardinia, which should be preserved and enhanced - underlines the regional secretary Flai Cgil - and instead must submit to the limits imposed by military easements, with a consequent serious economic damage for which unfortunately fair compensation is not guaranteed".

The compensations – the union denounces – «always arrive late and, moreover, are not appropriate and distributed evenly in the various prohibited areas».

Again, Flai Cgil Sardegna points the finger at «the repeated lack of response from the Region» and hopes for « an urgent acknowledgement and the immediate convening of the institutional table».

In the meantime, the workers of Sulcis Iglesiente are already in a state of agitation but the risk is that the protest will extend to all the areas where evacuation is planned for military exercises.

The next appointment is set for November 8, when the fishermen of Sulcis Iglesiente will meet in assembly. "If by that date there is no signal from the Region - concludes Marci - it is likely that the mobilization will expand to the point of protests under the buildings of the Region".
