Migrant shipwreck off Sardinia, search continues as arrivals continue

Seven migrants are still missing, and the search continues unabated. A Guardia di Finanza ATR 72 aircraft, which took off from Ciampino Airport, was spotted in the sea off Teulada and Sant'Antioco until sunset. This aircraft, equipped with advanced sensors, is used for maritime patrol duties.

For hours he searched for traces or remains of the vessel carrying nine Algerians who were trying to reach the coast of Sardinia, which sank on Friday.

After the rescue of the occupants of another vessel, the alarm was immediately raised. One migrant was found safe and sound. Late yesterday evening, the lifeless body of one of his fellow countrymen was discovered. As the hours passed, fears grew for the fate of the others.

Meanwhile, the editorial staff of Unione Sarda continues to receive requests from Algeria for information on the identity of the victim and the rescued shipwreck survivor, as well as on the results of the search. The families of those who took to the sea have had no news for days. And they know, unfortunately, that they must fear the worst.

Meanwhile, in the last few hours, nine more migrants have been rescued and transferred to the port of Sant'Antioco, with their final destination being the CPA in Monastir. Shortly thereafter, another arrived directly at the small port of Teulada.
