The lawyers of Graziano Mesina, the former red primrose of Sardinian banditry, who is currently hospitalized in the Clinical Center of the Opera prison in Milan, have requested a deferral of the sentence for health reasons. " He must return to Sardinia in the name of the principle of territoriality of the sentence and on the basis of his health conditions that appear to have further worsened ," says Maria Grazia Caligaris. The president of the association Socialismo Diritti Riforme ODV is asking for "an act of humanity for Mesina by the surveillance magistrates that would allow him to live out his old age in his region."

The request came after learning that the lawyers Maria Luisa Vernier and Beatrice Goddi have just today presented a new request to the Surveillance Court of Milan so that a deferment of sentence can be granted for health reasons.

"There are at least three aspects to consider in the story involving Graziano Mesina - observes Caligaris -. The first is related to his transfer to Milan, which is inexplicable given that in Sardinia, in Cagliari-Uta, there is a clinical center. This prevented him, given the distance and economic conditions, from having regular meetings with his grandchildren for two years. The second - he explains - concerns his educational recovery away from his family and without active participation in treatment activities. It is therefore "normal" that his psycho/social conditions have worsened. Finally, there is the question of his age, which is not negligible considering that he is now over 82 years old".
