In the Oristano area, there is a rush to get vaccines against meningococcus type B following the death of the young judoka Gabriele Pinna .

And the ASL 5 has decided to extend, starting next Monday, free vaccination to all workers resident in the province who provide services in contact with the public . Therefore, teachers, school staff, postal and office employees in contact with the public, supermarket and shop clerks will be able to request the administration of the vaccine on a voluntary basis.

The decision was made by the director of the Prevention department Maria Valentina Marras in agreement with the general management of the ASL of Oristano. After the tragedy of Gabriele Pinna, Marras herself had proposed the free administration of the vaccine to all young people between 11 and 25 years old living in the province.

"After having carried out a widespread prophylaxis operation among the contacts of the young man from Ghilarza and having started free vaccination for adolescents on Monday, the age group at greatest risk - explains Marras - we will now further expand the scope of the meningococcus type B prevention campaign, involving, on a voluntary basis, the staff who work in contact with the public, such as those in schools, front offices, supermarkets, and are therefore more exposed to the possibility of infection. As before - continues the director of the Prevention department - we invite people who fall into these categories of workers to undergo vaccination, which effectively protects against the disease".

The turnout recorded in recent days, the ASL reports, is very high . So much so that, «to better organize the activities and avoid long waits, it will be necessary to book the vaccination either by showing up in person at the vaccination centers or by sending an email to vaccinazioni@asloristano.it.

The name, surname and date of birth of the person to be vaccinated and the telephone number where they can be contacted to schedule the appointment must be specified.
