First the insults, then the kicks, and then the battery charger cable wrapped around her neck. The violence escalated when a 43-year-old craftsman tried to drown his partner in the bathtub.
The tense climate was reconstructed in the courtroom by prosecutor Valerio Bagattini who, at the end of his closing speech, requested a 10-year sentence for the man, accused of attempted murder and domestic violence.
The prosecutor reconstructed the story, maintaining that the victim's statements were always precise and consistent. There were medical findings and corroboration from the investigation: the visible marks on the woman's neck were consistent with an attempted murder.
Civil party lawyers Anna Lisa Carta (who is representing the woman) and Romina Marongiu (appointed to act as guardian of her daughter) supported the prosecutor's requests.
Defense attorney Gennaro Di Michele attempted to debunk the prosecution's case by arguing that they were a quiet couple , an exemplary partner, and that at that time they had only had a few physical and psychological problems. Furthermore, there had been no attempt to kill the woman: "The tub was empty, and the woman's hair was dry." The court will return to the courtroom on Tuesday the 27th for further arguments and sentencing.
