There has been great controversy among some animal rights associations over the tragedy that took place on Sartiglia Sunday .
But protagonist Marco Daga recounts what really happened: "As soon as we arrived near the roundabout in Piazza Manno, before turning onto Via Duomo for the start of the star race," Daga recounts, " a group of kids threw firecrackers practically at Hurrimera's clogs. Those explosions scared her so much that after a few meters she collapsed to the ground ."
The 39-year-old recounts the death of his mare with tears in his eyes, "because to me and my family, she was like a daughter. She was 14, never had a problem, she was fine . And let no one say she wasn't used to being in crowds, because during her life she traveled so much, she participated in dozens of events, even at racetracks with twenty thousand people . She was truly special."
When these tragedies occur , protests erupt from animal rights groups. "The death of a horse at the Sartiglia is unacceptable for the simple reason that it shouldn't have been there," writes Sonny Richichi, president of Italian Horse Protection, from his Montaione headquarters . "This is a serious incident, which confirms that using horses in entertainment events carries unavoidable risks," adds LAV from Rome. " They speak without knowing, for the sake of accusing . I prefer not to respond to people who don't even know where Oristano is, let alone understand how much I loved my mare," concludes Daga.
